Dons Host Jamboree; Season Starts Saturday At Current River Challenge

The high school basketball season starts at 6:30 p.m. Saturday for the Doniphan Dons at the Current River Challenge in Van Buren. First up will be the Steelville Cardinals - a Class 3 school that has averaged 21 wins per season over the last four years. The Dons got a taste of strong competition Nov. 20 at home hosting a jamboree that included West Plains, Sikeston and Dexter. Levi Rawlings' rebound and basket with 15 seconds left gave the Dons a one-point edge over West Plains in a six-minute quarter. Orie Owen scored nine points to give the Dons a two-point edge over Dexter.
