Minor Flood Warning Issued For Lower Current River

Looking south from the Doniphan bridge, the Current River was approaching 10 feet about 3 p.m. Thursday. Forecasts call for the river to reach 15 feet by around noon Friday before dropping below the 13-feet minor flooding level Sunday morning. Chances for more rain will remain through Saturday morning.

A minor flood warning has been issued for the lower Current River in Ripley County until Sunday morning.

The Current River at Doniphan steadily is rising and is expected to reach 15 feet around noon Friday, about two feet above minor flooding levels.

At 7:30 p.m. Thursday, the river at Doniphan was at 11.46 feet.

The National Weather Service Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service is calling for the river at Doniphan to reach minor flooding levels (13 feet) shortly after midnight tonight. At this time, the prediction service reports the river should drop below minor flooding levels around 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

Moderate flooding at Doniphan begins at 18 feet with water crossing Jefferson Street at 17 feet.

River forecasts take into account past precipitation and amounts expected approximately 24 hours into the future from the forecast issuance time.

Strong chances of thunderstorms and showers remain in the forecast through Saturday morning.
