Football Game Cancelled, Mr. And Miss DHS Events Postponed
The confirmation of the first case of COVID-19 at Doniphan High School late Thursday afternoon has resulted in the postponement of two events this weekend.
Doniphan’s scheduled football game Friday night at Fredericktown has been cancelled.
Saturday evening’s Mr. And Miss DHS coronation and festivities on campus have been postponed as well, according to Project Graduation committee president April Black.
R-I superintendent Brad Hagood said the district received confirmation Thursday afternoon that a high school student had tested positive for COVID-19.
Previously, the district had two positive tests, both involving fourth-grade students, with no high school students testing positive.
Hagood said all students affected were notified today and instructed to quarantine. He advised parents that if they were not contacted then their child was not affected.
The school is following the guidance of the Ripley County Health Center and CDC guidelines, the superintendent said.
Black said the Mr. and Miss DHS coronation will be re-scheduled for a future date.
“We are having to postone due to circumstances beyond our control but we do look forward to rescheduling it. We want to thank everyone for their support,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Ripley County Health Center announced Thursday evening that 10 new positive cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the county, bringing the total number of local cases since March to 242.
