On a chilly Tuesday morning, several dozen concerned Ripley County citizens gather at the Heritage Park, located on State Street, to pray for our nation.

The nondenominational gathering started at 8 a.m. on a beautifully crisp morning. Pastor Monty Flanigan of the First Baptist Church greeted those gathered. After his opening presentation he introduced Ms. Sarah Paul, who read a wonderful prayer for our nation. This was followed by several community pastors, including Pastor Dan Craig of His Place Church and Pastor Danny Miller of Oak Grove Church of God. The prayers specifically focused on our nation, the upcoming election, the hearing process for the nominated Supreme Court Associate Justice.

Doniphan is unique and obviously blessed to have a Ministerial Alliance compiled of many community pastors. Ministerial Alliances are not typical in larger communities according to several of the assembled clergy. They have recently organized and lead the “Pray for our Nation March” reported by staff reporter/photographer Ron Smith. During that march it was announced there would be a weekly prayer gathering until the November General election. A growing group of citizens meet at Heritage Park every Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. All are welcome to attend and pray for the nation
