To The Editor ... Gatewood Resident Asks That We Stand Up For God and Country

Wednesday, March 3, 2021

Editor,

I am not an insurrectionist, a racist, or an anarchist. I am a Bible-believing American. I’m a retired teacher; my husband and I are farmers living in a country that has rewarded hard work. We believe in this country and all it can offer to the industrious.

I’m sad to see what’s happening to us as a country, however. We are so divided that we are losing sight of who we are. Forget for a moment the labels of Democrat or Republican. I care deeply about certain things and I think you do too.

I believe we need a strong military to protect us from outside forces. Whether we want to believe it not, we are hated by many other countries. I believe we need to support Israel. This is a no brainer! The Bible commands it! I am pro-life! Let’s be honest, life begins at conception, not at birth! We must never forget the sanctity of life.

I believe we need a wall along our southern border. If a person wants to become an American there are lawful ways to do it.

I also believe we should keep our schools open. Teachers should be considered front-line workers because they are. My grandson is a senior in high school; it’s been a difficult year but at least an effort has been made to give the kids here an education. I salute our public school personnel in this area for their hard work! One day a week is unacceptable!

As I already mentioned we are farmers. Farmers aren’t given the support they need. The farmer feeds this country, whether crop farmers, cattle farmers, hog farmers, or chicken farmers. I enjoy a good hamburger made of real meat, don’t you? Not synthetic material!

I also would hope we could be energy independent. Yes, solar and wind power are wonderful but until we can enhance these, we have to depend on fossil fuels. I might point out that I test-drove an electric car 40 years ago.

We live in the Bible belt and I believe this part of the country holds this country together in more ways than one.

We need to write our congressmen and let our voices be heard. And when I vote, I am going to support the person who stands up for God and country no matter his or her politics, aren’t you?
