Vote written on a blackboard

The only election scheduled for 2021 will be held Tuesday, April 6, but don’t expect to see big lines at the polls.

One school board race at Lone Star R-IV and two others (Neelyville R-IV and East Carter R-II) that affect just a small handful of Ripley County voters, are being contested.

No races are contested in municipal races for the cities of Naylor and Doniphan.

Naylor voters will be asked to decide a proposition that if approved will allow them to continue to forgo elections whenever the number of candidates is equal to the number of positions in the office to be decided.

Voters in cities small enough to quality for the exception must renew its approval every three years.

At Lone Star, three candidates are running for two seats on the school board. They are current board member Dennis Meyers along with Justin Aaron Beckwith and Vera Jean Dickson. Board member Dan Dickson chose not to file for another term.

At Doniphan, city marshal Mark Rodgers is unopposed for a four-year term. Alderman Steve Collins is unopposed for a two-year term in Ward Two. Denver Jackson II is unopposed for the Ward One alderman seat to replace Jerry Cole, who did not file for another term.

At Naylor, Robert Miller and Linda Lunsford are unopposed for the two expiring terms for alderman positions.

Voters in the Doniphan Special Road District will be asked to renew the district’s current tax levy rate for road maintenance. This is an extension of the levy already in place and requires a vote every three years for renewal.

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Voters in Doniphan Precinct One and Two, West Doniphan, Poynor, Current River, Harris and Shirley townships will vote at the St. Benedict Catholic Church Hall.

Shirley, Pine and Kelly townships will vote at Elliott’s Community Center. Thomas and Varner townships will vote at J&N Farms (old Naylor City Hall building).
