1973: A Scrappy Game Of Checkers Beats The Heat

The summer of 1973 was off to a hot start by mid-June but under the maple trees on the east side of the Ripley County Courthouse, a scrappy game of checkers was a popular way to beat the heat. Pictured at right is Homer Smith, then western district commissioner, his opponent (left) is Cecil Crihfield. In the background are Roy Jackson, Raymond Logan and Orvil Birchett.
