Sometimes It Rains At Football Homecoming

As the students at Doniphan High School prepare this week for the 2021 football homecoming here’s a look back at some past DHS homecoming memories. Pictured above is 1975 football homecoming queen Leslie Stewart (you might recognize her today as city alderwoman Leslie Stewart Netherland) being escorted by senior football players Jim Young (60) and Jim Thomas (50.) This photo wasn’t made on Homecoming night. A steady downpour on Oct. 24 resulted in the coronation being moved to the post-game dance. So the following week, which happened to be Halloween night, the Homecoming court along with the senior players were honored in front of the fans during the final home game with Scott City. Sometimes it rains at football homecoming, so dress accordingly.
