1993 - Halloween Weekend Brings First Ground-Covering October Snow In 68 Years

Tuesday, October 26, 2021
Ripley County children waking up Saturday, Oct. 30, 1993, were in for a surprise with 2-3 inches of wet snow covering the ground. Not since 1925 had the county seen a ground-covering snow in October. That changed on Oct. 29, 1993, when misty rain, light sleet and then flakes of white began to fall. Official records indicated 2.25 inches fell in Doniphan with some areas reporting 3 inches. Most had melted by mid-morning Oct. 30, denying a chance to slip and slide while trick-or-treating.
