Extension Council Voting Begins Jan. 17

Voting is set to begin Monday, Jan. 17, to fill five seats on the Ripley County Extension Council for 2022.

Six candidates are seeking the five available positions on the board. The list includes Warren Bland, David Buxton, Danielle Mischka, Ed Mobley, Shawon Robinson and Christina Taylor.

Voting is open to county residents at least 18 years old with completed ballots being accepted Jan. 17-21.

Residents may vote in person at the county extension office on the second floor at the courthouse.

Completed ballots may be placed in boxes at several participating locations. They include Peoples Community Bank (Doniphan and Naylor branches), Southern Bank, Bank of Grandin, Harpís Foods, Hoefer Feed And Pet Food, Naylor Senior Center, West Y Convenience, Current River Bait & Tackle, Munch & Pump (Doniphan), Tractor Supply Company, Doniphan Nutrition Center, Campbell Feed and Inman Feed And Hardware.

Those elected will serve two-year terms. The council guides and directs university extension work in the county including 4-H programs for youth.

The list of 2022 candidates includes (in alphabetical order):

Warren Bland

Warren Bland

Warren Bland retired in September after working more than 40 years in the grocery business for Super Town & Country and Harpís Foods.

Bland previously has served on the extension council for 20 years. He also is active with the Ripley County Fair Board and the local chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation, the Ripley County Coon Club and other organizations. He was named the 2018 Ripley County Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year.

Bland and his wife, Dianna, reside on a farm in Ripley County. Their family includes two sons, Jeremy and James, and two daughters, Sarah and Nichole.

David Buxton

David Buxton

David Buxton is a full-time cattle farmer and resides near Doniphan. His family includes wife, Kim, daughter, Rese, and son, Decker. The Buxtons were selected as 2018 Ripley County Farm Family of the Year.

His interests include family, horses, dogs and helping others.

Danielle Mischka

Danielle Mischka

Danielle Mischka is a loan officer and vice president at Peoples Community Bank in Doniphan. She has two daughters, Janelle and Desiree.

She has been an active participant in 4-H programs, the Angel Tree projects at the bank and the Ripley County Chamber of Commerce.

She enjoys fishing, hiking and attending sporting events.

Ed Mobley

Ed Mobley

Ed Mobley is a lifetime Ripley County resident and worked as a utility engineer for Windstream Communications for many years before retiring. He is a member of Doniphan First Church of God.

His community involvement has included serving on the Ripley County Fair Board and the local Jaycees. His hobbies and interests include farming, sports and sightseeing.

Shawon Robinson

Shawon Robinson is a lifelong resident of Ripley County and has worked at Inman Feed And Hardware for four years.

As a youth, Robinson participated in horseshows and rodeos and also helped his grandfather with cattle. He enjoys hunting and fishing.

Robinson said as an extension council member he would like to provide more opportunities for youth.

Christina Taylor

Christina (Hollomon) Taylor is a full-time homemaker for her farm family that includes husband, Brandon, and three children.

The family owns and operates Taylor Cattle Co. and Taylor Calf Co. They are members of the Missouri Cattlemenís Association, the local Farm Bureau and were selected as Ripley County Farm Family Of The Year for 2020-21. The Taylor children enjoy participating in 4-H.

Taylor said she decided to run for the extension council after seeing firsthand the value and need for the programs that Extension brings to local youth and the community.
