Letter to the Editor
Editor,
I would like to compliment Ripley County’s response to the recent fires on Rt. 142. I volunteered with a local department when I moved back to Missouri since emergency services are needed everywhere. This was the first large fire I responded to and was amazed at the people who came out of fields, mills, and their homes to help.
Multiple departments responded along with a conservation department ‘dozer. Mutual aid tankers refilled other departments brush trucks and personnel with trucks answered to calls for help with hot spots.
A sheriff’s deputy helped me pull hose through the brush. Having lived in an area where paid departments were complained about for blocking traffic and soaking up taxes, I am glad to live here. Volunteer today and God bless.
