Thursday morning, they boarded a bus and drove from the high school to the Doniphan City Cemetery. It's become a tradition just before Memorial Day for the Doniphan Dons football team to decorate the veterans' graves with U.S. flags. This year 325 flags were donated by VFW Post 3485. Upon arrival at the cemetery, head coach Jeremy Stout had the team stand in a circle as he explained the reason they were there and the importance of what they were about to do. Before breaking the huddle, they joined together in prayer. It took about an hour for all the flags to be put in place, but the lessons learned will last much longer. Lessons in respect, remembrance and brotherhood.
