Veterans Keep City Draped In Red, White And Blue

Wednesday, July 14, 2021

Residents and visitors to the City of Doniphan enjoyed the beauty of the red, white and blue lining the major streets from Memorial Day through the Fourth of July holiday thanks to J.A. Ashby VFW Post 3485. The weather interfered with putting up all of the flags for Memorial Day. The remainder were up by Flag Day and remained on display through Independence Day festivities. During June, post members Justin Shelton, Dennis Mohrmann, Wayne Houdeshelt and Jim Moore collected donations to upgrade the flag project and raised $1,773 on the first day. The flag removal detail on July 7 included veteran volunteer Clyde Sallee, retiring post commander Justin Shelton, post veteran Wayne Houdashelt and post canteen manager Andrew Lilley. Watch for the flags again around Labor Day.
