RCSD Implements Social Distancing Measures For Non-Emergencies

Thursday, March 26, 2020

The Ripley County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and staff has joined agencies around the nation in implementing social distancing measures to help stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

“Our deputies come into close contact with several dozen people throughout their shift; and we do not want these contacts to spread infection,” Barton said.

The sheriff said in the event of non-emergency calls to residential addresses, deputies may ask residents to step outside to speak with them. As much as possible, deputies will try to avoid physical contact and to maintain the recommended six feet distance between themselves and the public.

Deputies are discouraged from shaking hands.

“They are not being rude, they are doing their part to protect the most vulnerable citizens of our community and our nation, ” Barton said.

Those who may be ‘self-quarantined’ and in need of making a non-emergency criminal complaint by phone are asked to call the sheriff’s office number at 573-996-5555 and request a call back from a deputy.

Residents needing to obtain a new conceal-carry firearm permit or renew a current permit are asked to call and make an appointment before coming to the sheriff’s office. Call 573-996-2129 between 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. Permit holders are asked to remember to bring proof of their new 9-1-1 address.

“Part of the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office mission is to protect the lives and well-being of the citizens we serve. By taking these preventive measures it is our hope that we can limit the effect of this potentially dangerous illness,” the sheriff said.
