Ripley County's Largest Polling Place Changing Locations

Tuesday, July 7, 2020

Ripley County’s largest polling place will be moved beginning with the Aug. 4 primary election, county clerk Becky York said Monday.

After several years of voting at the Doniphan Methodist Church, voters in seven townships will move to the new church hall at St. Benedict Catholic Church on Pine Street.

Voters affected include Doniphan Precincts I and II, West Doniphan, Poynor, Current River, Harris and Purman.

Purman joined for the June 2 municipal election with the other rural townships moved to the Doniphan location due to a lack of election judges, York said.

York said the Methodist Church location had room for about 30 voting booths including use of a kitchen area. The St. Benedict church hall, which opened last year, is considerably larger.

“With the need for social distancing, we’re hoping to be able to set up more booths to accommodate an expected increase in voter turnout,” York said.

The move affects about 4,500 registered voters - or around 60 percent of all registered voters in the county.
