Citywide Yard Sale, Eclipse ‘Best Of Both Worlds’ In Doniphan, In April

Wednesday, February 21, 2024
The downtown city lot and Riverfront Park will again be bustling with activity as Doniphan hosts the Sixth Annual Spring City-wide Yard Sale, April 6. The usual crowds of bargain seekers will this year be joined by stargazers who are expected to be in town to view the total Eclipse on the Current, the following Monday. Booth spaces are available now on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Two major crowd-pleasing events are set to take place in Doniphan the first week of April: the city’s Sixth Annual City-wide Spring Yard Sale on April 6, closely followed by the Great American Eclipse on April 8.

While stargazers are seeking the ideal spots from which to view the eclipse, and bargain hunters are seeking for the ideal spots to get good buys...Doniphan will offer the best of both worlds.

There is ample opportunity for residents to profit, says Serra McCabe, who along with Doniphan City Treasurer Chasity Mathis, annually plan the city-wide event as a way to boost commerce and tourism in Doniphan.

Booth spaces for the yard sale are available at $10 each for a 20-foot x 20-foot space, (a bargain for sellers, too).

Vendors can drop in at the Doniphan City Hall and book a spot, or contact Mathis at 996-2623.

Spaces may be assigned at the city lot in downtown Doniphan (the former Fred’s parking lot) or at Riverfront Park.

“We are excited about this year’s event. We have brand new food trucks coming to town, and seven of those on our list are local people,” says McCabe.

Food trucks which are signed on at this time include: Stockards Cajun Shak & More, Mudcat Coffee House, Mireyas Mexican Food Truck, Everything Rolls, Brian’s BBQ, Divine Perks, Holy Rollin Rolled Ice Cream, Kate’s Sweet Treats, Bridget’s Variety Popcorn, Lemonade House Grille (mobile), Thomas Funnel Cakes, Oak Grove Church of God, and Kona Ice of North Bootheel & Cape County.

Yard sale vendors may set up as early as 6 a.m. on Saturday, and sales should begin at 8 a.m., and last until 2 p.m.

As a courtesy to the city and for tourists who will be in town for the eclipse, vendors are urged by planners to “keep Doniphan clean.” Avoid leaving litter behind in the wake of the yard sale.
