Six brave contestants bellied-up to the table July 19 for the first Blackberry Cobbler Gobbler sponsored by the Ripley County Gardening Club. The objective was to see who would be first to eat an entire cobbler. The winner and earning the crown as 'king cobbler gobbler' was Will Kohlschmidt from Pine, Mo. The Ripley County Gardening Club’s first Blackberry Festival joined Cruisin’ The Park for lots of entertaining moments then moved to Sycamore Hills Country Club Saturday morning for a golf tournament before concluding with Pickin’ On The Square in the evening. Saturday’s golf tournament raised $1,300 for two scholarships for Doniphan High School golf team members and $328 for the gardening club’s efforts to beautify the downtown area, said Julie Braschler, club secretary.
