St. Benedict Shares Free 'Fat Tuesday' Breakfast

Crews at St. Benedict got up early this morning to prepare breakfast for the Doniphan/Ripley County community, as part of their Fat Tuesday (Mardi Gras) celebration. Fat Tuesday refers to the day before Ash Wednesday, which is the first day of Lent in the Western Christian churches (including the Roman Catholic Church and Protestant churches). It is more commonly known as Mardi Gras, which is French for “Fat Tuesday”, and reflects the practice of consuming rich, fatty foods prior to Lent.

A group of diners enjoy their breakfast of pancakes, eggs, sausage and a drink, all served free to the public today until 1 p.m. Donations and ticket proceeds for a $100 Harps gift card raffle given away during the special brunch went to Lean On Me Food Pantry and other local charities.
