Circuit Thoughts

Pastor Kent Wilfong

I cannot believe it has been a year. A year ago, we went into nationwide shutdown due to the outbreak of Covid.

On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization declared a Global Pandemic, and life began to change. In that time frame, over 560,000 people have died in the US due to Corona Virus-related issues. There probably isn’t a family in the country who has not been affected by this virus. We still don’t know the long-term effects of having the virus, but we know more than we did one year ago.

The only question I have is, “How are you doing?” Life has its own challenges and trials, but this past year has given us more than our share. I know we have all been stretched to the limit. So, how are you doing? More importantly, how is your faith? In this past year we have lost churches, businesses, friends and family. The year 2020-21 has been a year of challenges, so I ask, “How are you doing?”

Is your faith still intact? Are you still praying and believing in God’s grace and goodness? Are you casting your burdens on Christ and Christ alone? Are you praying for your loved ones and our leaders?

Folks, we have been in quarantine and we have separated ourselves from each other in the name of health and community. The problem is, the human being is not meant to be alone, and we have evidence that long-term solitude is detrimental to our health.

That is why I am inviting you to connect. I genuinely want to know how you are doing. Your pastor is genuinely wanting to know how you are doing. Our health professionals both physical and mental are interested in how you are doing. We are a community. So, let us know. Don’t be afraid to share your concerns or fears. We are ready to listen and pray.

I also encourage you to reach out to others. Remember, it’s been a year, and for some, it has been a year indoors. Many are needing to be prayed with and for. Many are just needing to connect and hear another voice. Many just need to know they haven’t been forgotten.

I also encourage you to start back to your church. Online worship in your pajamas is all well and good, but there is nothing like being in the congregation sharing in worship. Christ tells us that where two or more are gathered, he is there. So, it is time to join the two or more. We can still be safe and meet.

My friends, we have been through some tough times together, and as for Covid, we are coming out of the wilderness. There are going to be more challenges ahead of us, (there always are, that’s the way life is). We need to regroup and get back to our primary task, to love God, love our neighbor and make disciples.

But for now, how are you doing?

See you in church.
