Circuit Thoughts

Hosanna! Blessed is he who come in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the Highest Heaven! We read in Mark 11:1-11 of the people shouting praise to the King of Kings who comes riding in on the back of a donkey’s colt. Jerusalem was going wild and their hopes of a King that would overcome the Roman authorities were being fulfilled, or so they thought.

How many times have we done similar things? How many times has the actual event not measured up to our expectations? How many times have we been disappointed by people? The very people who were celebrating that day so long ago would within a week be shouting for the blood of the one they were calling King.

This coming Sunday is Palm Sunday, and it is the start of Holy Week as we Journey to Easter. In the story of the Palms, Jesus rides into Jerusalem and a huge crowd breaks out in praise and excitement. The whole city knew things were going to change. They just didn’t see how those things were going to change.

Isn’t that the way with us? We have our plans all set up and then we pray about them. But when God tells us he has a different plan, we get angry or disappointed. The funny thing is God’s plan is always better than anything we can think of.

You see, God knows the Big Picture, and why not, He painted it. God knows how things are supposed to fit and how things are supposed to work. To be in God’s will means you work with the plan. God’s plan is to save us from our sin and gather us to His home. That’s a good plan.

The people in Jerusalem thought Christ came to kick out the Romans. They didn’t realize that Christ came to conquer hearts. Who could have guessed that within 300 years Christianity would be the religion of the realm? We are 2000 years removed from that Palm Sunday and Christian believers make up 1/3 of the world’s population and that number is growing.

We live in exciting times as more and more people are hearing the word of God. In places where Christians are persecuted, the Church grows and thrives. God is active in the world and you can be a part of it.

Here’s all you need to do. Pray for the big C - Church. All the denominations of the world are part of the Body of Christ and whether your church is Roman Catholic, Pentecostal or somewhere in between, you share in that Body of Christ, so pray that the world will hear the Good News of Christ.

While you are at it, get to church and get involved. Showing up is 90 percent of everything, and if you are at church you can learn and grow in Christ. Getting involved can lead to a deeper relationship with Christ and will lead others to Christ.

But most importantly, you need to have a relationship with Christ. Seek His forgiveness and His salvation and then encourage others to get to know Jesus.

I look forward to the day when we will all gather and sing Hosanna in the Highest.

See you in church.
