Circuit Thoughts

Wednesday, December 22, 2021

Here we are in the final stretch. In just a few days it will be Dec. 25, 2021. The last-minute shopping is being done. The dinner preparations are finalizing. The pastors are preparing the Christmas Eve and Christmas day sermons. Some of the children are planning an all-nighter on Christmas eve night to make sure a certain guy in a red suit will be by their house.

Lest you forget what all of this is for, let me share a scripture with you. “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God”. (Romans 3:23) Here is another scripture, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)

I suspect you were probably prepared for the Nativity story of either Matthew or Luke. Well, folks, the birth of Christ should be celebrated, but not at the cost of forgetting why he was born.

Hebrews 10:4 tells us that it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away our sins, (you can read it, it’s all right there). Christmas is here because of three things. 1: We are all sinners, 2: The result of sin is death, and 3: No amount of sacrifice on our part will pay the penalty of sin.

This is where Christmas comes in. God made a way for his creation to be saved, and that was for the perfect lamb to be born. This little boy, whose birth we celebrate on Dec. 25, came with purpose. He was to be the second Adam and abolish the penalty of sin forever.

His life will lead him to teach, preach, heal, feed and love all of God’s children. At the end, he will take on the sins of the entire world, past, present, and future. He will carry these sins to the cross, and his blood will be all sufficient to save you and me.

The true miracle of the birth of Christ is not in the angels singing or the shepherds coming to the manger. The true miracle is not in the wisemen’s gifts or the angels intervention. The true miracle of Christmas is that God loved us so much that he gave his only son, that whosoever believes will have everlasting life. (John 3:16). That, my friend is the true reason for Christmas.

We celebrate, not because of the gifts under the tree, but the gift that was on the tree. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who died for our sins, and rose again. He has gone to prepare us a place and will be coming soon.

That is the true purpose of Christmas. That is the message we need to be sharing, and that is the reason we celebrate.

From my family to yours, I pray you will have a Merry Christmas, and the grace that is Jesus Christ’s will be with you always.

God Bless.

See you in church.
